Days 26 and 27 Triacastella

It was a beautiful morning as I left Villafranca – I was back in the mountains and the day started with a gentle climb as the path followed a quiet road cut into the side of the mountain – it followed the river in the valley below

The first stop was Trabedillo a small mountain village where I stopped for breakfast and met an old Camino friend and we walked together for the rest of the day as we passed through several villages before reaching the village of Hospital which was the start of a very steep 8 kilometre ascent from 700 metres to 1400 metres to O Cebreiro.

It was a really hot afternoon and after completing a few kilometres of the climb I decided to stop for the night in a delightful mountain village of La Faba.

This morning I started the remainder of the climb to O Cebreiro in the dark – seeing dawn break over the mountains was exhilarating – I was now leaving the region of Leon into Gallicia – I enjoyed breakfast in O Cebreiro before starting a series of steep descents and ascents climbing two 1300 metre summits. The final descent took me to Triacastella and my bed for the night after an extraordinary beautiful but exhausting days walk.
